How To Make A Baby Quilt With Pink Jelly Roll Fabric

Making a baby quilt with pink jelly roll fabric is a fun and rewarding project. Let’s get started!

Materials Needed:

*1 jelly roll of pink fabric (40 strips)
*1 yard of batting
*1 yard of backing fabric (choose a soft pattern)
*Rotary cutter and cutting mat
*Quilting ruler
*Sewing machine
*Thread
*Iron

Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric

Start by unrolling the jelly roll. Press each strip to remove any wrinkles. Choose a pattern you like for your quilt layout.

Step 2: Cut the Strips

Decide how wide you want your quilt squares. Cut each jelly roll strip into squares, typically 5” x 5”. You can mix and match patterns for a playful look.

Step 3: Lay Out Your Design

Arrange the squares on a flat surface. Play with the placement until you find a design you love. This step helps visualize your quilt before sewing.

Step 4: Sew the Squares Together

Begin sewing the squares in rows. Place two squares right sides together and sew a ¼” seam along one edge. Press the seams open. Repeat this for all squares, forming rows.

Step 5: Join the Rows

Now, sew the rows together. Align the seams carefully and sew a ¼” seam. Press the seams open again. You should now have the quilt top completed!

Step 6: Layer Your Quilt

Lay the backing fabric right side down on a flat surface. Place the batting on top, followed by the quilt top, right side up. Smooth out any wrinkles.

Step 7: Pin or Baste

Use safety pins or basting spray to hold the layers together. This step keeps everything in place while you quilt.

Step 8: Quilt Your Layers

Using your sewing machine, quilt through all layers. You can sew straight lines or create a fun pattern. Be creative!

Step 9: Trim the Edges

Once you finish quilting, trim any excess batting and backing fabric. Make sure the edges are even.

Step 10: Bind the Quilt

Cut strips of fabric (about 2.5” wide) for the binding. Sew them together to create one long strip. Fold the strip in half and press. Attach it to the edges of the quilt, folding it over the raw edges. Sew it in place.

Step 11: Final Touches

Give your quilt a good press. Check for any loose threads and trim them. Your beautiful baby quilt is ready!

This pink jelly roll baby quilt is a perfect gift for new parents or a lovely addition to your home. Enjoy the process and let your creativity shine! Happy quilting!
